Evan Tapper: Swoon, Gallery 1C03, University of Winnipeg, January 21 - February 20, 2010

Evan Tapper
Swoon, 2010.
Promotional image.

Evan Tapper is intrigued by classical tales, particularly those describing (or prescribing) gender roles throughout the ages. Drawing visual inspiration for a work in the University of Winnipeg's Permanent Collection, Leda (and Swan) by Arthur Adamson, Swoon took the form of a multi-media installation conceived to explore the ancient Greek stores involving the god Zeus and his strange encounters with mortal women thereby prompting viewers to consider issues of power, misogyny, agency, sexuality, and violence.

Featured Artist: Evan Tapper (Winnipeg/Toronto) with the inclusion of work by Arthur Adamsom (Winnipeg)

This exhibition was generously supported by: The University of Winnipeg and the Manitoba Arts Council.
