Hello!
Milena Placentile, and I'm a contemporary art curator, writer, and consultant.
Through the course of my career in the arts, I've worked with various
organizations including Video Pool Media Arts Centre (Winnipeg), send+receive:
a festival of sound (Winnipeg), SMART Project Space (Amsterdam), the Ottawa
Art Gallery, the Walter Phillips Gallery (Banff), A Space Gallery (Toronto),
and the Textile Museum of Canada (Toronto) among others. While I still
love to travel wherever and whenever I can, I am now happily ensconced
in weird and wonderful Winnipeg where I was most recently affiliated with
Gallery 1C03 at the University of Winnipeg. G1C03’s 2009/2010 programming
season is going to be pretty awesome
(if I do say so myself), so if you’d like to find out more about
that, please
More about me…
I hold a Master of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto and the
research I conducted during my time there continues to serve as the basis
for my ongoing investigations into audience-centered curatorial practices,
integrated public programming, and socially engaged cultural policy.
I am a member of IKT (International Association of Curators of Contemporary
Art) and I am very happy to have received generous support from organizations
including the Canada Council for the Arts, the Winnipeg and Manitoba Arts
Councils, the International Association of Art Critics (Armenia), the
Consulate General of France in Toronto, and the Henry Moore Foundation.
In addition to commissioned critical responses, I’ve also written
for FUSE, Border Crossings, and MUSE.
My recent exhibitions including The Arts of Togetherness (Toronto,
2009), The Pinky Show: Class Treason Stories (excerpts) (Winnipeg,
2009; Toronto, 2010), and Evan Tapper: Swoon (Winnipeg, 2010).
Three online exhibitions as part of the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad
will be online until the end of March, Competition (2009), Corporatization
(2009), and Consumerism (2010). Showing Up, Speaking Out
-- a project concerned with municipal citizenry -- will launch at aceartinc.
September 1, 2010.
If you'd like additional information about what I've done, what I do,
or what I'm hoping to do in the future, just
ask. I look forward to hearing from you!
